Kasson, in southeastern Minnesota, is part of Dodge County. The city is about thirteen miles west of Rochester along US Highway 14, and one of the endpoints of Minnesota Highway 57. Kasson is just south of Mantorville, west of Byron, and east of Dodge Center. The Dakota, Minnesota and Eastern Railroad's main freight line runs through Kasson. Named for Jabez Hyde Kasson, the major landowner who settled the area in 1820, Kasson was incorporated as a city in 1870, and separated from Kasson Township in 1917. The Chicago and North Western Transportation Company, a Class I railroad, maintained a station in Kasson. Today, Kasson is at the southwestern portion of the Richard J. Dover Memorial Hardwood State Forest, and within the boundaries of the forest. The population of Kasson has increased each census year since 1930, including a fifty percent increase during the 1970s.
