The small city of Loretto, Minnesota is in Hennepin County. Country Roads 11 and 19 are the chief routes through the city. Nearby communities include Burschville, Corcoran, Delano, Greenfield, Hamel, Independence, Long Lake, Maple Plain, Medina, Orono, and Rockford. The community was founded as a stop along the Soo Railway line in 1886. Its early settlers were largely German and Dutch immigrants. Early businesses included Koch's Meat Market, Van Beusekom's General Store, the Dutch Mill Dairy, Weldner's Saloon, Loretto Feed and Seed Company, Pettit's Bar, Murphy's Blacksmith, Fullerton Lumber, and the State Bank of Loretto. Saints Peter and Paul Church, constructed in 1903, is still in use. Loretto was incorporated in 1940. Although never a large town, Loretto has decreased only once since the city was incorporated, that being in the 1970s. Since then, its population has increased each census year.
