The seat of Goodhue County, Red Wing is located on the Mississippi River, and connected to Wisconsin by a bridge known locally as the Red Wing Bridge, but officially named the Eisenhower Bridge. The city was named for Hupahuduta, a Native American chief whose name meant, in English, "a swan's wing dyed in red". The city is home to Red Wing Shoes, sold internationally.
