Brooksville is a small town in Noxubee County, in central-eastern Mississippi. A post office was established at Brooksville in 1846, and the town was incorporated in 1860, deriving its name from the several brooks that flow through the area. The town formed as a stop along the Mobile and Ohio Railroad, which came through the region in the 1850s. A large Mennonite community exists in and around Brooksville. The town is served by US Highway 45, which passes along the eastern boundaries of the town. Nearby communities include Cliftonville, Crawford, Deerbrook, Lynn Creek, Macon, Prairie Point, and Trinity. Columbus is about twenty-three miles to the northeast, and Starkville is about twenty-eight miles to the northwest.
