Named for E.L. Bruce, the owner of a sawmill operation around which the town grew, the town of Bruce, Mississippi still enjoys a sawmill industry, with Weyerhauser operating a mill there today, as well as other independently owned mills. Bruce was incorporated in 1928, shortly after the mill operations began and a railroad was constructed to the area. Bruce is situated along the Skuna River is Calhoun County, in upper central Mississippi. State Highway 9 runs through the center of town, running south to Pittsboro and Calhoun City, and northeast to Pontotoc, while State Highway 32 intersects Highway 9 in the center of town, leading east to New Houlka and northwest to Water Valley.
