Named for a nearby grove of hickory trees, Hickory Flat, Mississippi is a small town in Benton County, situated within the Holly Springs National Forest. The town was incorporated in 1874. Exit 48 of US Route 78 leads through the center of town, following the former route of US 78. Along US Route 78, Holly Springs is about twenty miles northwest of Hickory Flat, while Memphis, Tennessee is sixty-five miles northwest. New Albany is fourteen miles southeast, and Tupelo is forty-two miles southeast. Other nearby communities include Myrtle, Potts Camp, and Winborn, Bethel, Bethlehem, Blue Mountain, Cornersville, and Darden.
