Most often known simply as Hamilton, the unincorporated town of New Hamilton is in Monroe County, Mississippi. The original town of Hamilton, located east of the current townsite, was the original county seat but, in 1830 Monroe County was split to form Lowndes County, and the seat of government was moved north to Aberdeen. The town moved to its current location when it was bypassed by the Kansas City, Memphis & Birmingham Railroad in the late 1880s. Tronox operates a titanium dioxide manufacturing facility in New Hamilton, and is the town’s major employer. Hamilton is situated along US Route 45, east of the Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway, north of Columbus Air Force Base. Nearby communities include Aberdeen, Binford, Caledonia, East Aberdeen, Kolola Springs, Lackey, and Strong. Columbus, Mississippi is about eighteen miles south of New Hamilton.
