Saltillo is a city in Lee County, Mississippi. The first known European-Amerian settler in the area was James Kyle, but very little business was done there until the railroad came through the region. The town was formed as a station on the Mobile & Ohio Railroad, and incorporated in 1881, at which time the town had five churches: The Presbyterian Church was organized in 1850, the Methodist Church in 1868, the Baptist Church in the early 1870s, the Christian Church in 1876, and a Catholic Church was organized sometimes before 1890. Saltillo is situated just south of Guntown. Other nearby communities include Belden, Birmingham, Blair, Boggan Bend, Chapelville, Eggville, Frog Island, Jug Fork, Macedonia, and Mount Vernon. Tupelo, Mississippi is about ten miles south of Saltillo.
