The Show-Me State is the nickname for the state of Missouri, which is located in the American Midwest. Prior to its entry into the Union as the 24th state in 1821, it was known as the Missouri Territory. The Lewis and Clark Expedition used the state as its starting point and return destination. Samuel Langhorne Clemens, better known as Mark Twain, was born in Florida, Missouri and Harry Truman was born in rural Lamar.
