Adrian, Missouri is a city in Bates County, Montana. Its original location was on Crescent Hill but the settlement moved three miles south in order to be near the railroad when the Missouri Pacific Railroad extended its track to the area in 1880. The town was officially platted that year, and named for Adrian, Michigan, the home town of many of its early settlers. The original townsite remains within the town limits of Adrian. The first store in Adrian was operated by C.P. Cox, and was a board shack that opened for business on September 1, 1880, while the second business was a dry goods and grocery store run by Henry and Nelson Moudy. The first school in Adrian was constructed in 1892, northwest of the school’s current location. Each year, the town hosts the Western Missouri Antique Tractor and Machinery Association Gas and Steam Engine Show. Adrian is located on US Highway 71, south of Archie and Harrisonville and north of Passaic and Butler, and just east of the Kansas border.
