Named for Robert Anderson, who opened a general store and post office there in 1886, Anderson, Missouri is a city in McDonald County. The first settlement in the region was at Beaver Springs, and the Anderson Baptist Church was formed in 1848. The town’s growth was spurred by the extension of the railroad through the area, and incorporated as a city in 1909. From the early 1900 to about 1950, Anderson had a strong strawberry industry, but this business was diminished by competition from the Western and Southern states, which had longer growing seasons. Anderson is located along Missouri Highways 59 and 76, just wests of I-71. Lanagan is south of Anderson, Goodman is to the north, and the Kansas border is to the west.
