Ashland, Missouri is in southern Boone County. The small city was named for the Ashland estate of Kentucky Congressman Henry Clay in Lexington, Kentucky. Clay played a key role in the Missouri Compromise of 1820, which allowed Missouri to be admitted as the 24th state. Ashland is situated along US Highway 63, just west of the Mark Twain National Forest, south of Elkhurst, and northeast of Wilton.
