The small city of Blackwater, Missouri is in Cooper County, situated south of the Blackwater River, for which it was named. The city was platted in 1887, after the Missouri Pacific Railroad extended its track to the region, although a trading settlement existed there long before that time. Blackwater was one of the stops along the Boonslick Trail, and its commercial district is registered with the National Register of Historic Places. Blackwater is north of I-70, east of Nelson, northeast of Ridge Prairie, and northwest of Lamine.
