The small city of Cooter, in Pemiscot County, Missouri, was incorporated in 1854, and named for the Portell Coutre family, who were early settlers, although it is known that Coutre was a merchant there as early as 1795. Cooter is east of Interstate 55 and west of the Mississippi River and the Tennessee border. The communities of Cottonwood Point and Tyler are to the east, Acorn Corner is to the northeast, Denton and Covington to the northwest, Channel to the west, and the Arkansas border to the south.
