The city of Goodman is the northernmost town in McDonald County, in southwestern Missouri. The community was established after the Kansas City, Pittsburg and Gulf Railroad extended its track to the region, constructing a depot just inside of the village of Donahue, which later became known as Goodman. The village was renamed for Lowell Goodman, a co-owner of the Ozark Orchard Company, which had orchards over 2,500 acres of land in Goodman and the surrounding area. Strawberries were also a significant contributor to the community’s early economy. Goodman is situated east of Interstate 49, which is also US Highway 71. To its east is Erie, while May is to the west, Splitlog is to the southwest, and Neosho is to the north. Goodman is near Missouri’s borders with Kansas, Oklahoma, and Arkansas.
