The small city of Holt, Missouri spans both Clay and Clinton counties. The city was named for Jerre A. Holt, the original settler, who had come to the area from North Carolina. Holt is located in northwestern Missouri, near the Kansas state line, and northwest of Interstate Highway 35, with Missouri Highways 35 and 215 passing through the city. Haynesville is east of Holt.
