Paris, Missouri is the county seat of Monroe County. Settled in 1831, the city was named for Paris, France. The small city is situated in the fertile Salt River Valley, and near the 18,000 acre Mark Twain Lake to the east, while the Middle Fork of the Salt River flows through the northern and eastern portion of the city. US Highway 24 passes through the western part of the city, while Business 24 passes through its center. The small community of Goss is northeast of Paris, Granville is northwest, Holliday and Madison are west, and Strother is southeast.
