Troy is the county seat of Lincoln County, Missouri. The town was founded in 1819, and its early development was concentrated around a spring, which was later stopped up by the construction of State Highway 47. Early settlers built their homes and businesses near the spring, and a stockade was built there during the War of 1812 for protection from the Indians who were allied with the British. Some area settlers built cabins within the stockade, and these formed the nucleus for the community’s downtown section. Originally known as Woods Fort, it was later named Troy, for the city in New York where many of its settlers had come from. Trump is situated immediately southwest of Cuivre River State Park, and accessed through US Highway 61 and Missouri Highway 47. Surrounding communities include Briscoe, Brussells, Cave, Davis, Moscow Hills, Okete, and South Troy.
