Built along the Mississippi River, just north of the Cuivre River, the city of Winfield is in Lincoln County, Missouri. The town was named for Winfield Killam, the father of its founder, David Killam. Winfield was platted in 1879 and incorporated in 1882, and became quite prosperous during the late 19th century, particularly when the St. Louis & Northwestern Railroad extended its tracks to the area, although many of the town’s businesses moved a short distance to the west, establishing a new population center along the rail lines. Winfield is about forty-eight miles from St. Louis. Nearby communities include Argentville, Batchtown, Beechville, Brevator, Foley, Old Monroe, and Parkers Landing.
