The city of Roundup, Montana is surrounded by the Bull Mountains, which are part of the Rocky Mountains. The Musselshell River runs through the city, which is the county seat of Musselshell County. The city got its name from its role as a place where cattlemen could round up their cattle along the Musselshell River, and was the trailhead of the Great Montana Centennial Cattle Drive of 1989, in which 2,400 people, including working cowboys, 200 wagons, and 2,800 cattle traveled fifty miles in six days from Roundup to Billings, Montana. Roundup is located at the intersection of Highways 87 and 12, immediately northeast of Camp Three, north of Klein, and west of Gage.
