The Dodge County city of Scribner was platted in 1870 by John Blair, who was representing the railroad, and named for Charles Scribner, the founder of the Scribner Publishing Company. Although Scribner began as a railroad town, the railroad ended its service to Scribner in 1984, and no longer includes a track through the town. Scribner hosts the Dodge County Fair each August, and has an auditorium, museum, library, several parks, a swimming pool, and lighted baseball and softball fields. Scribner is situated along Highway 275/Route 91, southeast of Snyder, south of Crowell, and northwest of Hooper and Winslow.
