Minden is a census-designated place and the county seat of Douglas County, Nevada. Founded in 1906 by Heinrich Friedrich Dangberg Jr., the town was named for the German town by that name. The Dangberg Home Ranch commissioned most of the town’s early construction, which was mapped and defined on the ground before the first building was built, and its post office was also established in 1906. After the 1920s, new construction obscured the symmetrical pattern of the original planned community. Minden is immediately adjacent to Gardnerville, to the southeast.
