Brookfield is a small town in Carroll County, New Hampshire. The area was settled by Scottish-Irish immigrants in 1726, and first named Coleraine. Later, the community was renamed Brookfield, but made part of Middleton, separating in 1794, largely because Middleton was divided geographically by the high ridge of Moose Mountain, making it difficult for people to travel to town meetings. When Carroll County was created from parts of Strafford County in 1840, Brookfield was made part of Carroll County, while Middleton remained with Strafford. Brookfield is accessed by New Hampshire Route 109.
