The town of Candia is in Rockingham County, New Hampshire, and includes the unincorporated communities of Candia Four Corners and East Candia. Initially part of Chester, when it was first settled in 1743, it was known as Charmingfare. Its name was changed to Candia when it was incorporated as an independent town in 1763. Candia is bounded by Auburn, Chester, Deerfield, Hooksett, and Raymond. Rederick Smyth, the 30th governor of New Hampshire, was born in Candia.
