The town of Center Harbor separated from New Hampston, and was incorporated in 1797, named its location between Meredith and Moultonborough, as well as from the Senter family, who were prominent landowners in the area. In its early days, the town was a landing place for lake steamers and a stopping point for stagecoaches, making it a popular summer resort. Located in Belknap County, New Hampshire, Center Harbor is between Lake Winnipesaukee and Squam Lake, and its town limits include several miles of shoreline on Squam Lake and one mile on Lake Winnipesaukee. The town’s one-room schoolhouse closed in the 1970s, and students now commute to Meredith.
