Situated at the junction of NH Routes 31, 45, and 123, the town of Greenville is in Hillsborough County, New Hampshire. The community was initially part of Mason, and known as Mason Village, separating from Mason to become an independent town in 1872. The town was built in the area of the High Falls on the Souhegan River, which provided water power for cotton and woolen mills, making Greenville the manufacturing center of the area, although its mills are now used for other purposes. The town once had a trestle for the Boston & Main Railroad, which has since been dismantled, its railroad depot turned into a restaurant. Greenville is bounded by Mason, New Ipswich, Temple, and Wilton.
