The town of Lyndeborough, New Hampshire is in Hillsborough County. Granted by the Massachusetts General Court to veterans of King Williams War from Salem, Massachusets, the area was initially known as Salem-Canada. Among the first settlers, John Cram established a sawmill there in 1736. Later, the land was re-granted to a group of people who included Benjamin Lynde, and who may have never even visited the community; nevertheless, the settlement was named for Lynde, who later became Chief Justice of Massachusetts. Lyndeborough is bordered by Francestown, Greenfield, Milford, Mont Vernon, New Boston, Temple, and Wilton. Lyndeborough has been home to the Lafayette Artillery Company since 1833, and several others of its buildings are listed on the National Register of Historic Places, including the town office building, historic district, Congregational church, and portions of the Town Pound.
