Incorporated in 1722, Nottingham was named for Daniel Finch, 2nd Earl of Nottingham. Among the original grantees was Peregrine White, a descendant of Peregrine White of the Mayflower, the first English child born in New England. Located in Rockingham County, in southeastern New Hampshire, Nottingham once included Deerfield and Northwood. Nottingham includes fourteen lakes and ponds, and is drained by the Pawtuckaway and North rivers, as well as Black Creek. At one time, the town had seventeen watermills in operation. Pawtuckaway State Park is in Nottingham. The town is southwest of Lee Five Corners.
