The town of Winchester, in Cheshire County, New Hampshire, includes the village of Ashuelot and a portion of Pisgah State Park. Established by Colonial Governor Jonathan Belcher in 1733, as protection from Indian attack along the Connecticut River, Winchester was originally named Arlington. When the Massachusetts-New Hampshire border was established, Governor Benning Wentworth incorporated the town as Winchester. The town’s early settlers endured several attacks by Indians, and the town was burned in 1747. Winchester is east of Hinsdale and west of Richmond.
