Bedminster Township is in Somerset County, New Jersey. The community was settled by Dutch, German and Scots-Irish immigrants in 1710, and named for what was then a city in Somerset, England, but which is now a suburb of Bristol. Bedminster Township is known for the Pluckemin Continental Artillery Cantonment Site, one of the most historic Revolutionary War sites, and now listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Jacobus Vanderveer House & Museum
Between the Revolutionary War winter at Valley Forge, Pennsylvania in 1777, and Morristown, New Jersey in 1779, the Bedminster, New Jersey area served as the winter encampment. Known as the Pluckemin Artillery Park, the Vanderveer House and surrounding area became America’s first military training academy, and was the precursor to West Point.
