The borough of Bergenfield, in Bergen County, New Jersey, was organized in 1894, formed from parts of Englewood and Palisades townships. The settlement grew up around a chair factory established by Richard Tunis Cooper in the early 1940s, and expanded by his son, Tunis Richard Cooper, in the late 1840s. Bergenfield is south of Dumont, east of River Edge, and west of Tenafly.
