Incorporated by the New Jersey Legislature, from portions of Bethlehem Township, the borough of Bloomsbury is located in Hunterdon County, and thought to have been named for members of the Bloom family who were prominent in the early history of the town. The community grew up around Johnson’s Iron Works, owned by Robert Johnson, and located on the north bank of the Musconetcong River, while the town is on the south side of the river. Bloomsbury borders Franklin, Greenwich and Pohatcong townships, all in Warren County.
