Settled in 1677, and initially formed in 1688, the township was made one of New Jersey’s original townships in 1798. The township is comprised of three communities, including Chesterfield, Crosswicks, and Sykesville. The unincorporated village of Chesterfield, located within the township, was known as Recklesstown in the eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries, and was changed in 1888. Chesterfield Township is in Burlington County, New Jersey.
