Situated along the Delaware River, Delaware Township, New Jersey, forms the western portion of Hunterdon County. The township was created from the now defunct Amwell Township in 1838. The Delaware and Raritan Canal has its origins near the Delaware Township settlement of Raven Rock. Delaware is bordered to the north and east by the townships of Raritan and East Amwell, to the northwest by Kingwood and Franklin townships, and to the west by Stockton Borough. The historic village of Sergeantsville is in the center of the township. Other unincorporated communities within the township are Croton, Locktown, Raven Rock, Rosemont, and Sand Brook.
