The town of Dover is in Morris County, New Jersey. Situated along the Rockaway River, the land was purchased from Native Americans by the Proprietors of West Jersey in 1713, and John Jackson settled in the area along Granny’s Brook in 1722. Dover was incorporated as a town in 1869, its early industry related to the iron ore deposits that were found in the region. While it was in operation, Dover was served by the Morris Canal. Today, most parts of the town are within a half mile of its downtown area.
