East Amwell Township was created in 1846 when Amwell Township was split into two townships, East and West Amwell. East Amwell is in the southeastern part of Hunterdon County, where it borders with Somerset and Mercer counties, and includes the unincorporated communities of Larison’s Corner, Ringoes, Weert’s Corner, and parts of Reaville. The northern part of the township is in Amwell Valley, while the southern part is in the Sourlands region. Charles and Anne Lindbergh owned an estate in East Amwell, from which their firstborn son was abducted and later found dead. Route 31 passes through the township along its western border with West Amwell, while Route 179 and US Route 202 pass through near Ringoes. Other roads that go through the township are CR 514, CR 518, and CR 579.
