East Hanover, in Morris County, was organized as a township by the New Jersey Legislature in 1928. Located in the township are the headquarters of Nabisco, now owned by Kraft Foods, and Novartis, a pharmaceutical company. East Hanover is bordered by the Whippany River, to the west and north, and the Passaic River, to the east and north. Due to this geographic feature, the community was originally known as Hanover Neck.
