A township in Atlantic County, New Jersey. It was originally called New Weymouth and was incorporated as Egg Harbor Township on February 21, 1798. The area's name was from Cornelius Jacobsen Mey, a Dutch explorer who came upon the inlet to the Great Egg Harbor River. Mey called the area "Eyren Haven" (Egg Harbor), due to shorebird and waterfowl eggs covering the meadows.
