Englewood was established as a township in 1871, when Hackensack Township was subdivided. However, the township lasted less than twenty-five years, and was itself subdivided, with portions forming the borough of Bergenfield, the township of Teaneck, and Englewood Cliffs, while the remainder was combined with parts of Ridgefield Township to form the City of Englewood. Englewood was incorporated as a city in 1899. Englewood, New Jersey is northwest of Englewood Cliffs and south of Tenafly.
