Hillside is a township in Union County, New Jersey, incorporated from portions of Union Township in 1913. The township is on the northern edge of Union County, bordered by Elizabeth, Irvington, Newark, and Union. The initial settlement of the community began shortly after the 1664 Elizabethtown Tract purchase and the settlement of Newark Colony in 1666.
