Ho-Ho-Kus, in Bergen County, New Jersey, was incorporated as a borough in 1908. Its name is thought to be a contraction of the Delaware Indian term, "Mah-Ho-Ho-Kus," meaning "the red cedar." Although its name is often spelled, without the hyphens, as HoHoKus, the official spelling is hyphenated. Ho-Ho-Kus is north of Ridgewood.
