The borough of Lakehurst is in Ocean County, New Jersey. The borough was created from portions of Manchester Township in 1921. Lake Horicon, within the town, was created by the Works Progress Administration in 1942 when a dam was built on the Hurricane and Blacks branches of the Toms River. In 1937, the German zeppelin, Hindenburg, caught fire at the Lakehurst Naval Air Station, exploding over portions of Manchester Township, near Lakehurst.
