Situated south of the city of New Brunswick, the township of North Brunswick was named for its neighbor, South Brunswick, which itself was named for its proximity to New Brunswick. The first recorded mention of North Brunswick in history was in the Middlesex Freeholder Board minutes of February 28, 1779. North Brunswick was incorporated in 1798 as one of New Jersey’s initial townships.
