South Amboy, New Jersey is a city on the Raritan Bay in Middlesex County. Together, South Amboy and Perth Amboy, across the Raritan River, are referred to as The Amboys. South Amboy was first formed from Perth Amboy, and incorporated as a township in 1798, and it became a borough in 1888, and a city in 1908. Sayreville is southwest of South Amboy. Before it became an independent community, it was known as the South Ward of Perth Amboy, and was also called Radford’s Ferry.
