The borough of Tuckerton, in Ocean County, New Jersey, is surrounded by Little Egg Township, from which it separated in 1901. Since Tuckerton and Little Egg Harbor have the same zip code, and Little Egg Harbor ha no downtown area, many people refer to Little Egg Harbor and the surrounding suburbs as Tuckerton. The area was settled in 1698, mostly along Pohatcong Creek. Around 1791, Tuckerton became a port of entry into the United States. Over the years, the town has been known as Andrew Mills, Middle-of-the-Shore, Clamtown, Quakertown, and Fishtown.
