Situated on the western shore of the Hudson River, along the southern part of the New Jersey Palisades, in Hudson County, Weehawken was incorporated as a township in 1859, although the region was settled around 1630 when Dutch settlers displaced the Hackensack and Tappan tribes who formerly inhabited the area. Weehawken has several neighborhoods, including The Shades, The Heights, Uptown, and The Waterfront. Weehawken Cove is in the southeastern corner of the township.
