The city of Eunice, New Mexico is in Lea County. The community began in 1908, when J.N. Carson came to the area to set up the homestead, a store, and a post office, that later became the town of Eunice, named for his eldest daughter. Much of the growth of Eunice, beginning in 1926, has been through the oil industry. Eunice is south of Hobbs, east of Carlsbad, and northwest of Midland and Odessa.
