The small village of Reserve is the seat of Catron County, New Mexico. Located in the Gila National Forest on the New Mexico-Arizona border, southeast of Eagar, Arizona and northwest of Silver City, New Mexico. Then known as Milligan’s Plaza, Reserve was the site of the legendary Frisco Shootout of Elfego Baca, a 19 year-old who held off eighty Texans for thirty-three hours in 1882, or perhaps 1884.
