Texico is the oldest town in Curry County, New Mexico. It is situated directly across the border from Farwell, Texas. Its first known settler was Ira W. Taylor, section foreman for the Pecos Valley and North Eastern Railroad, who owned a 160-acre claim adjacent to the railroad, and settled there in early 1902. After an early boom period, the town declined afer 1906, when the railroad chose Clovis as its division point.
