Named for the foot of a butte called Wagon Mound, which was a landmark for wagon trains traveling the Santa Fe Trail, the small village of Wagon Mound is in Mora County, New Mexico. When the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railroad came through in 1881, a town grew up there. The village is southeast of Ocate, northeast of Valmora, and west of Roy, at the intersection of I-24 and New Mexico Highway 120.
